The University of Naples Federico II (http://www.unina.it) offers courses in essentially all academic disciplines, leading to more than 150 graduate level degrees, 86 masters courses and 80 doctoral programmes. With more than 84,000 students, nearly 2,500 academic personnel and 26 Departments, the Federico II is one of the largest Universities in Italy.
The SUSEES Module is based at the Department of Social Sciences (DSS) (http://www.scienzesociali.unina.it/en_GB/home). The DSS offers 4 graduate level degrees (Sociology, Digital Cultures and Communication, Social and Territorial Policies and Public, Social and Political Communication) and has more than 1100 students. It also offers a Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and Statistics, and currently hosts 20 PhDs students. Its academic interdisciplinary staff (50 members) undertakes research activities on diverse topics that intersect EU-related fields of study such as EU Citizenship, Democracy, ICT and new technologies/media, Digital competences, Inclusion and equity, Labour markets, Governance and Political Systems.
The DSS provides the teaching modules of Sociology of Education and Education Policy, where the themes of Europeanisation and the European dimension are central topics. The teaching activity is closely related to the research activity of a well established group of educational researchers that is increasingly focusing its agenda on Europeanisation and EU-related topics and is affiliated with the Network 28 ‘Sociologies of Education’ of the European Educational Research Association (EERA), the Education Section of the Italian Sociological Association and diverse international centres of excellence on educational research.
